Biochar Application for Revegetation Purposes in Northern Saskatchewan
Resource
Our research was focused on biochar application for revegetation purposes under northern Saskatchewan conditions. The Gunnar Mine Site, located on the northern shore of the Athabasca Lake, was used as...
Biodiversity Offsets and Caribou Conservation in Alberta: Opportunities and Challenges
Resource
We conclude that a number of actions to offset impacts of development and achieve no net loss or net positive impact for caribou are theoretically feasible (i.e., if implemented they should work), including habitat restoration and manipulations of the large mammal predator-prey system. However, implementation challenges are substantial and include a lack of mechanisms for setting aside some resources for long periods of time, public opposition to predator control, and uncertainty associated with loss-gain calculations.
Biodiversity Outcomes of Land Management Choices in Alberta’s Agricultural Lands
Resource
This proof of concept assessment helps understand better market opportunities associated with biodiversity management in Alberta’s agricultural lands. Land management can increase biodiversity.
Bioengineering and Conventional Erosion and Sediment Control Solutions for Oil Sands Operations
Resource
This report, prepared by Associated Environmental (Associated) on behalf of Canada's Oil Sands Innovation Alliance (COSIA), documents the benefits and limitations of bioengineering and conventional...
Bioengineering Techniques for Revegetation of Riparian Areas at the Colomac Mine, NWT
Resource
Factors such as nutrient poor soils, harsh climate, remote locations, and high costs make revegetating disturbed areas in northern environments a challenge. We present a case study where novel...
Bioengineering. The Use of Plant Biomass to Stabilize and Reclaim Highly Disturbed Sites
