Chronic wasting disease – a fatal prion disease that affects cervids – has impacts on a number of different stakeholder groups. This presentation will provide an overview of our research on the social and economic dimensions of CWD, focusing mostly on its impact on resident hunters. Hunter perceptions of CWD and responses to changing levels CWD in terms of hunting activity will be explored. Hunter perspectives on their role in management of CWD, and the economic impacts of CWD management programs involving hunters will be presented.
