The Forest Management and Wetland Stewardship Initiative (FMWSI) launched the Guiding Principles for Wetland Stewardship and Forest Management Technical Report and Practitioner Guide in December 2018. The purpose of the project was to document the current state of knowledge on the interactions among boreal wetlands, forests, and forest management and to provide strategic and operational level planning considerations to promote wetland stewardship in the context of forest management. These documents introduce boreal wetlands, identify key links between boreal wetlands and forest management, and outline four guiding principles for wetland stewardship along with objectives and planning considerations that can be applied on the ground to meet these principles. The technical report is intended to be a reference document, providing supporting documentation and examples of how wetlands can be considered as part of forest management. The practitioner guide is intended to be a user-friendly reference for forest professionals. In this webinar, we will introduce the FMWSI, provide an overview of the guiding principles, objectives, and planning considerations for wetland stewardship, and discuss how these concepts can be applied in the context of forest management.
