This fact sheet presents the results of a study on the influence of genetic selection on variation in wood density of white spruce. Conducted in Quebec, based on two genetic tests initiated in 1999, this study reveals moderate genetic control of wood density. This implies that breeding programs can select trees with a more uniform wood density, thus meeting the needs of the forest industry.
