Plant hardiness information supports appropriate matching of plant species to planting sites while considering climate change. This project will update the hardiness zone maps and individual tree species models at Canada’s Plant Hardiness Site using the latest 30-year climate data from the 1991 to 2020 period. The project team will additionally update the plant hardiness content on the CFS My Tree app, an online application developed using information from the plant hardiness website. The application is a key tool for programs and everyday citizens involved in tree planting. This project will support the 2BT program by enabling the selection of more climatically suitable species and seed sources, leading to greater long term survival of trees.
