Port Joli is Wild for Waterfowl

Looking for an opportunity to help protect birds? Join us for a day birdwatching at the Nature Conservancy of Canada’s (NCC's) Port Joli and Little Port L’Hebert Nature Reserves.

The Port Joli natural area is known for its peace and tranquility and provides habitat for a variety of shorebirds and other birds, the most prominent being Canada goose, endangered piping plover, tern and American black duck, as well as a variety of plants. It also boasts a very rich cultural and natural history.

Join NCC and Birds Canada for the annual Wild for Waterfowl Count. NCC has conservation lands in Port Joli and Little Port L’Hebert, which are prime spots for birding as they are adjacent to migratory bird sanctuaries and part of the South Shore Important Bird Area. Birding skills are valuable but not a prerequisite for participation in this day-long count. Data from this event will be provided to the Canadian Wildlife Service to assist in managing three coastal migratory bird sanctuaries in the area as well as NCC nature reserves. Note: Participants will be divided into teams and will be required to drive to multiple survey locations.

Pre-registration for this event is required

Please note:

• This event will be weather dependent.
• Water and snacks will be provided.
• All tools will be provided by NCC.
• Additional event details, including directions and parking instructions, will be provided closer to the event day. 
• Early December weather in the area can be windy and cold, so wear warm clothing in layers; drive safely to survey locations.
• No toilets will be available on-site, so please be sure to stop on your way to the event.
